What I wish I'd asked my attorney in our very first conversation
Looking back at my initial consultation, there were a few questions I didn't think to ask that would have set clearer expectations from the start. Sharing them for anyone about to have that first conversation. What's your specific division of labor going to be — what will you draft versus what will I need to gather and organize myself? How do you typically communicate during the process, and what's a realistic response time I should expect? What's your experience specifically with cases similar to mine (same general field, similar evidence profile), not just EB-1A generally? And practically: what does your fee structure actually cover, and what happens if the case needs an RFE response — is that included or additional? None of these are unusual or awkward questions to ask a professional you're about to work closely with for months — a good attorney should welcome them. I just hadn't thought to ask upfront, and ended up clarifying some of this reactively partway through instead of having clear expectations from day one.
