How my case actually went from decision to green card in hand

Sharing the post-approval timeline since I found less written about this stage than about the petition-building stage, and it had its own set of things I wish I'd understood earlier. My approval notice came before my priority date was current, which I hadn't fully understood was even possible going in — approval and being able to actually receive the green card are two separate steps, and the second one depends on visa availability for your category and country of birth. That gap between "approved" and "current" ended up being longer than the petition process itself in my case. What helped during that waiting period: understanding early that this gap was normal and expected for my specific country of birth, rather than worrying something had gone wrong. Checking the visa bulletin monthly, not obsessively, and knowing roughly what movement pattern to expect kept the wait from feeling like an open-ended unknown.
