What I learned managing my case timeline alongside a major life event
Went through a significant personal life event (a family health situation) in the middle of building my case, and want to share how I adjusted my approach, since a long process like this doesn't pause for life circumstances the way we might wish it could. What I did: was honest with myself about needing to slow down for a period rather than trying to maintain an unsustainable pace through a genuinely difficult stretch, and communicated proactively with my attorney and reference letter writers about a realistic, adjusted timeline rather than letting deadlines silently slip without explanation. Most people I communicated with about the delay were understanding once I was direct about it. The broader lesson: this process happens alongside a real life that doesn't stop, and building in the flexibility to genuinely pause and resume, rather than treating any slowdown as a failure, made the eventual return to steady progress much easier than if I'd been carrying guilt about "falling behind" on top of everything else going on.
