Deciding whether to wait for one more achievement before filing

Had a real, concrete decision point: a conference presentation I'd been invited to give was six months out, and I debated whether to wait and include it or file with what I already had. Sharing how I actually decided, since I think this exact dilemma comes up for a lot of people. What tipped the decision toward waiting, in my specific case: the pending achievement was directly relevant to my weakest criterion, not just generally nice-to-have, and six months was a genuinely bounded, known wait rather than an open-ended "maybe something will come up." If it had been vague or my file had already been strong across the board, I probably would have filed without waiting. The general framework I used, for what it's worth: is the pending achievement specifically closing a real gap (not just adding more to an already-strong area), and is the wait bounded and reasonably certain? If both are true, waiting can be worth it. If either isn't, filing with what you have and potentially supplementing later is usually the better call.
